I melt like butter when enveloped in the fragrance of real sandalwood. It has been my favorite fragrance since I was a young woman in her early twenties in San Francisco, where I could buy my favorite Bee and Flower sandalwood soap in Chinatown for mere pennies a bar.

Over the years I discovered that I much prefer sandalwood products from India rather than China. The tree species Santalum Album is indigenous to south India and the sweet exotic fragrance from this wood has been used for centuries in perfumes, soaps, talcum powder, cosmetic products and incense.

The essential oil distilled from Indian sandal wood has well established Ayurvedic healing properties as well and has been used widely for its tremendous benefits to the skin. It enhances the suppleness and radiance of the skin, soothes irritation, provides antibacterial protection, and of course fights body odor.

Sandalwood essential oil from the Mysore region of India is the very best and highest quality sandalwood available. The premium sandal woods from which the best oil is derived are at least eighty years old. Unfortunately with the intense popularity of Indian sandalwood products and the great demand for Mysore sandalwood essential oil, the very existence of the Indian Santalum Album trees is severely threatened. This explains the rising cost of Mysore sandalwood products.

This soap is my favorite and I have used it for years. It is not drying or irritating and has a calming effect on all the senses.

Buying it in relative bulk from Amazon is a very nice way to do so; it comes quickly with reasonable packaging as it is "ready to ship".

My daughter's mother-in-law sent me two of these soaps...I had never heard of it so I decided to give it a try. I love the soap. It leaves a lasting soft scent on the body all day long. It is a soft scent, not perfumy like regular soaps. I, in turn, bought some and shared with one of my friends. She also liked it.

Mysore Sandal soap is, quite simply, the best soap available on the market today. The fact that it is made in a government run factory in India means that it costs a fraction of the price of other quality soaps. Elegant it is not, but what do you expect for less than $3 per bar? I suppose it goes without saying that Sandalwood is, by far, my favoutite aroma. I'm obviously not alone in that.
