I'm Southeast Asian with combination skin-type, I guess. I've never been to a dermatologist so I'm not sure what's wrong with my skin but it's scaly, itchy with dry white spots everywhere. Some times it's burning and red bumps would appear. A friend recommended this and I'm willing to try anything at this point. I often scratch, scratch, SCRATCH until there are long, bloody furrows on my arms, my thighs, bikini area, behind my knees, on my back/shoulder blades, everywhere. I've gotten used to slathering on Cortizone 10 every two hours EVERY WHERE on my body since I hit puberty 16 years ago to relieve the itching.Since using this, my dry spots are dramatically less dry, my skin is only slightly oily but my face is soft with zero dry spots AND the odd, red rash-like bumps are gone. I still have to slap on a teaspoon of Cortizone 10 every hour if I intend to sweat or walk around for more than two hours to keep from scratching like a flea-bitten dog but I'm not an active person so this result is absolutely, positively, perfectly fine with me.

This soap has an intoxicating and pleasingly pungent aroma. Wow. The bar is large and quite heavy for its size. This version does not contain any lavender petals and is therefore very, very smoooth. Love this soap.
About the packaging. Came with the corners of the soap chipped due to poor wrapping. At this price the soap should have had some protective wrapping. As it is, not suitable for gift giving.

I gave this as a birthday gift, The only thing I didn't care for is how it was handled getting to me. I ordered two soaps and they were both dinged up pretty bad. If the soap was just for me I probably wouldn't have cared but it was a gift for someone. They didn't mind either once they took a deep smell of the soap in. "Ahhhhh" they said! I got 5 stars for my gift so I will be giving this product 5 stars! lol I also got the hand cream that went with this. I bought this to accompany my fist safety razor experience. I don't have anything to compare it with except for canned cream and I was really surprised how wonderful it was. I bought the badger brush and this combo gets a nice lather and the scent is mild but pleasant. I've been wet-shaving on and off since the early eighties and I've used a lot of soaps and creams. I finally got around to trying this one and I'm sorry I waited so long. This is a large puck of soap, over five ounces, and the tin is a nice touch. The scent is strong but not overpowering. I like it. It is difficult for me to describe scents in a meaningful way, everyone has their own preferences. If you like mild or unscented soaps, you may want to pass on this one. If you like a scent that stands out, then this is for you. But how does it shave? The lather builds quickly and easily. I generally face lather soaps with a boar brush and a few swirls on the soap cake and you ready to go. The soap is forgiving as far as the correct soap/water ratio, but experimenting a little pays dividends. The lather is slick, cushioning, and fairly long lasting. It is also quite moisturizing and shouldn't leave your face feeling dried out. The price may seem steep compared to drug store soaps, but remember that this is a larger puck than say, Van Der Hagen and will last much longer.
