Chandrika Chandrika Soap

I have used this soap for well over 10 years and it still remains my favorite. While Chandrika Ayurvedic soap is handmade using no animal products, it's intoxicating and fragrant scent along with its outstanding properties as a soap are what have made me a fan for so many years. It never dries your skin yet cleans your skin completely. The packaging is also a big part of my love for this product. Each bar is stamped on both sides with an imprint and individually wrapped in clear cellophane wrapper which is then wrapped with a folded parchment sheet printed on both sides with the soap's 9 ingredients (coconut oil making up over 66%). At the bottom of the paper wrapper it states "Always Use CHANDRIKA Ensure your Personal charm." I hope you will give it a try. It's a magical little item that is inexpensive, but wonderful.

The smell is great. Does wonders for the skin. Being ayurvedic it treats many skin ailments too.

I first started using this soap when I went to Thailand back in January of 2008. I wanted something small with a fresh scent (and of course, natural!). In the winter, I tend to purchase other soaps with more moisturizing qualities but in the summer, I like the scent of the Chandrika. However, to the reviewer that mentioned the soap burns his/her face...I wouldn't be surprised if that's due to the sodium hydroxide aka caustic soda aka lye. I wish they'd find a replacement for this one ingredient and I'd be sold for life. In Chandrika's defense, lye has been used in soap making forever and so I guess it's fairly safe in this form. Wish I had more time to research the matter. For now, I'll continue to use it in the summer as I enjoy it's fragrance very much and it doesn't dry out my skin.

At one point, during that bleak historical period known as "pre-Internet," I was living in a small town and had to order an absurdly large amount (60 or 80 bars) from a distributor to have any at all. I supported Stack Soap from the Kickstarter mostly because slivers of soap tend to slip from my freakishly large hands at high speeds into inconvenient places like behind the toilet or straight into my face. Stack Soap solves this problem without the guilt of so many almost finished bars unceremoniously tossed into the trash. Aside from its main purpose of allowing you to make the most out of your soap, it also has a nice smell that doesn't hang around like an annoying relative and leaves even ragged hands like mine that have been exposed to cleaning chemicals, engine grease, garden dirt, and a cat that thinks fingers are chew toys soft and smooth. Hooray for Stack Soap!

My wife and I funded this project on Kickstarter because we are always looking for ways to avoid wasting those little slivers that slip and slide all over the place, try to go down the drain and basically make a nuisance of themselves. When I saw this on Kickstarter I didn't hesitate and immediately backed it. Now the soap is here and we're very happy with it smell and all. I have noticed several reviews that knock the scent, but as regular users of good, old fashioned Ivory, we have to say this soap smells pleasant and fresh. It's not heavily perfumed and perhaps that's what some users are missing it doesn't smell like a beach, a flower or a rainstorm. It smells clean and leaves me feeling clean. Maybe I'm too easy going but, seriously, it's soap, what were people expecting. I say, "Buy it, you won't be disappointed."

I just got the soap a few days ago and am loving it. The actual soap smells nice but not overpowering, it is very light. It soaps up really well and washes off nice too. The packaging, I have to say, is slick. It looks really good in and out of the box.

Now to the important piece. The design of the soap lets you put your almost done previous bar into the new bar. I love the concept but I am having trouble figuring out when I will know the soap bar is small enough to fit into the next bar and not be too small. Still don't know how to solve this problem, BUT I don't think I have to. Even if the previous soap is tiny it can still be put into the new soap and because of the ridge it is able to stick to the new soap and not get dislodged when you wash your hands. Even tiny soaps can be added to make the new soap. I hope they come out with new scents because I would love to keep buying this product.

Chinese B&F Soap Rose 2.65 Ounces

This soap is the answer to the prayers of anyone who wants luxury for less. The ornate wrapper is a work of art in itself, making these a nice hostess gift or stocking stuffer. The scent is light in the rose and jasmine bars. (I often buy the sandalwood, which is very strong and tenacious. In fact, I line my drawers with them.) The bars are on the small side. However, they are hardmilled, so they don't ooze down the drain in a week like some pricier creamier bars. They can be purchased at healthfood type stores, hippie chic boutiques, and Chinese or Indian groceries. I have been buying them for at least 20 years all over the country and a few months ago found some for 33 cents per bar(though just under a dollar is more typical).

I must admit that this soap really dries out my skin. So I use it as a sachet for my dresser drawers. It has a beautiful scent and lasts a long time. I've been using Bee & Flower soaps for a very long time to scent my clothes and will continue to do so. If you like to open your dresser and take out a piece of clothing that carries a clean light scent these soaps will do the trick. This seller shipped very quickly and packaged the soap very well.

I orignially found this soap in San Francisco, Chinatown. It was many years before I found it on Amazon. First...you smell the subtle scent before you open the pretty packaging. It is so nicely packaged..you can feel a bit of the orient when opening it. The rose scent is not powerful but has a light flowery rose scent. It suds up a bit but not overly so..lasts a long..long time. I think it is under-rated as it is truly a superior & unique bar of soap. It is extreamly hard to find..so I'm buying a case of it!

I can't believe it is so inexpensive because 25+ years ago it was $1/bar what a buy!

Handcrafted Buttermilk with Honey and Mango Butter Soap

I purchased this soap hoping it's as good as other reviewers have raved. Unfortunately, my soap didn't smell at all nor felt slightly soft and moist like I'm used to in soaps of this format. I thought maybe I have to wet it to release the scent but nothing. No lather either. This is the worst soap I have ever used and to think it cost ten dollars is absurd. I contacted the seller to see whether I got an old soap but no answer. I so wanted to love it but alas, it was a total rip off. The weight was 6.95oz just in case anyone wonders about the size because it wasn't in the product description when I was buying it.

I have been trying to find new "natural" soaps and I really like this bar because it doesn't leave a residue like other bars seem to. It's simple ingredients that clean well and rinse completely. The smell is very subtle, not overpowering like commercial washes. Also, this bar lasted me far longer than expected, so although I thought it was a little pricey at first, it lasted me longer than a bottle of body wash would have. I've already ordered more!

Update 4/25/13:

Now that spring has sprung I can say that I made it through ski season with no cracked fingers (which had become the norm for me when using body wash)and minimal lotion. Getting ready to place my next order.

Update 5/14/13:

I've reordered twice now and got much smaller bars than my first few orders and the bars now cost more. I'm going to be contacting the company, but I just thought that folks should know they are now charging more for less product.

AHAVA Dead Sea Purifying Mud Soap, 3.4 oz.

This soap is wonderful.. Doesn't break up or get used up fast like all other soaps. I love most Ahava products and this is no exception. My skin feels very clean after using this soap and toned. I have keratosis pilaris, so I get the bumps on my upper arms and thighs. This soap helps immensely. My skin feels smoother in these areas. I've also use it on my face and its clearing up my oily t-zone. The soap is expensive but it doesn't lather well, so it doesn't waste easily. It has a very light fragrance which is slightly earthy, but leaves no lingering fragrance on the body. I have purchased Dove products in the past, but never had a problem with sensitivity to a strong scent, but we do with this product. Dial White Antibacterial Soap Bar, 4-Ounce Bars, 3-Count (Pack of 3)

It feels a little weird writing a review on a soap but I think it will help some people. I had a hard time finding the right product when I started buying my own soap, detergent, tooth brush...etc. There is so many selections and it's hard to determine which one to get. I've bought different kinds of soaps and this dial is great for the price and quantity you get. I love Dove products but I think it's a little overpriced. Almond Delicious Soap

I received this soap in a L'Occitane Almond gift package and love it! I hate soap and would never pay for soap; unless it is L'occitane. I am hooked on the Almond products and love the smell and texture of this soap. It also does not leave the slimy soap film in the soap dish. Lathers nicely, keeps skin soft, and the almond flakes gently exfoliate. Great stuff.

I received this bar as a gift. The scent is so nice. It leaves a nice scent in my bathroom after I use it in the shower. The bar is small, so the nearly twelve dollar price tag once you add on the shipping is more than I'd want to spend. It's much smaller than a standard bar, it's more like a hotel sized bar. I do love it though.

I hadn't realised that Pears had changed the formulation of its transparent soap until I bought this. Dear God, what were they thinking of? It now smells of insect repellent and makes my skin itch and flake. I wouldn't even use this on the dog. Shame on you, Unilever!

Slightly less than one year ago (late September 2009) I was getting low on Pears, but I couldn't find it at my local Denver, Colorado, USA, area stores, so I bought a 12-bar carton from Amazon. Now I only have 4 bars left, and so today I bought some bars at a local Dollar Tree store. I noticed the packaging changes, but I didn't realize the extent of the disaster until I got home, compared a new box with an old, and saw the strange new ingredient list. That motivated me to open a new box, which revealed the new plastic/cellophane wrapping. I opened it and was greeted by the horrible new odor! It's quite a nasty-smelling formulation, reminiscent of some kind of insecticide or industrial cleaning product. I immediately returned the bars. Unfortunately, this probably means that Amazon also no longer has the old formula, unless a savvy and honest seller specifically says that they have the original product. Such a shame for a great 220-year-old brand, which Unilever has totally ruined. Needless to say, I won't be buying the horrific "New Pears" formula.
