Primal Elements Honey Maple & Oats 6.0 Oz. Handmade Glycerin Bar Soap

Primal Elements Honey Maple & Oats 6.0 Oz. Handmade Glycerin Bar SoapFirst of all, the scents are just right: not too strong, not too light. I have tried eight different kinds of Primal Elements, and they have all been terrific. And nothing beats glycerin. The honey, maple, and oats bar is especially good because of the scent but also the oats, which act as a mild defoliant. I will never purchase any other soap. It is Primal Elements through Amazon or nothing at all.

Raw African Black Soap from Ghana 1 Lb

Raw African Black Soap from Ghana 1 LbMy wife has had trouble with acne her whole life and is always looking for something to help her skin. After reading the reviews she was up for trying this out.

At first she was really impressed with how well it cleaned. She used it once a day in the morning and her acne decreased initially, with breakouts taking less time to clear. She was a little concerned at how dry her skin was but since it helped she kept using it.

After about 3 weeks she started having more trouble with breakouts and stopped using the soap. Overdrying her skin caused it to increase oil production to compensate (so she tells me) and that lead to increased skin problems. She's back to her old regimen of commercial products and managing to keep her skin looking good.

She says she recommends this product but it's not for everyone, and if you use the soap be aware of how much it dries out skin.

I have a science background and was curious about how this soap affected her skin. Another reviewer determined the pH of this soap to be 10 (above 7 is alkaline, below 7 is acidic with 7 being neutral). I did some reading and learned a lot more about skin than I thought I would. The average skin pH of a healthy adult is roughly in the range of 4.5 to 6.0, and this is because of a thin layer called the acid mantle. The acid mantle is a mixture of oil produced by the skin and sweat. The acid mantle protects the skin from the elements as well as bacteria and viruses. If the acid mantle is stripped off or neutralized (i.e. loses its acidity) then the skin is more susceptible to damage and infection. Bacteria favor a higher pH, so the lower pH of the acid mantle kills them. Remove the acid mantle and bacteria can grow, which may lead to breakouts.

Washing with a very alkaline soap like this will strip away the acid mantle. That's why many of the reviewers comment on how drying the soap is, because the acid mantle is made up in part of natural oils produced by the skin. Most bar soaps have a pH of 9 which is why they're not recommended for facial use (cleansers have a lower pH). This soap is a really strong bar soap.

I'm not saying you shouldn't buy this soap. I'm just sharing what I found out when I started reading about skin and soap. I hope you found the information useful. Please add anything I missed or correct any mistakes I made in the comments to this review.

I sent this to a friend who has the MOST sensitive skin on earth. I told her to expect that it would look a little like a piece of a tree trunk, so she knew it wasn't going to look like industrial supermarket soap. She got her serrated vegetable knife, whacked off a nice chunk, and ran to wash her face to see how her skin reacted. She reports that she is VERY happy with soft skin and NO ITCHING!

I've been on a mission to go completely chemical free with what I put on my body. I did a lot of research, and this soap seemed to fit the bill being completely chemical free. When used it feels deliciously slippery and emollient, however, I find it very drying to the skin. I tried to make shampoo from it. There are several videos on youtube by African American women which looked great. I am caucasian but I thought i'd give it a try without all the oils that they used, because I tried making other shampoos with oils and I looked like an oil slick.

With pH strips in hand, a mixture of water and this soap came to a whopping big 10! I do think that when a lot of oils are added then it may cancel out the higher pH.

I loved how creamy it got naturally on it's own, and thought that if I could only get the pH down to 5 or six without destroying the creaminess it would be fantastic shampoo! I ended up adding tons of lemon juice, Aloe Vera, and believe it or not even Kefir which is also very acidic. It took forever to get the pH down! It became very thin and my bubble was burst. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that It can work by adding powdered citric acid and water. I would NEVER EVER recommend putting this product straight on the hair unless you want a brittle tangled mess that you can't comb out! It would damage the hair. It is TWICE higher than pH should be for skin and hair alike. That is why it dries the skin out. I think that if using this product a body wash should be made from this soap somehow adjusting the pH. I believe then it will be an excellent product. I'll try some powdered citric acid before I give up. :)

I have extremely oily skin and this was a skin saver, at first...I would use it in the morning and it soaked up all of my oil for most of the day. I no longer had to worry about the midday chicken grease face because it was no longer oily. But after a few months, my face became overly dry and ashy-that never happens to my skin, ever. I learned that my skin was being stripped of it's natural oils and went haywire. So I stopped using it and my skin returned to it's regular oily state.

I also used this soap as a shampoo and it worked wonders, at first...I would wash my hair once a week and this soap really got rid of any oil or gunk on my scalp and left my hair feeling refreshed every week. But after a few months, my scalp began to burn and my hair was super dry and rough to touch-which never happened to me before. Once I stopped using it my hair returned to it's natural state.

Overall, I think this can be effective, but use it every once in a while. It seems to be a temporary fix to your problems and I am torn between my like and dislike of this product.

Natures Innovation Naturasil Sulfer Lavander Soap

Natures Innovation Naturasil Sulfer Lavander SoapFirst, I'd like to say that I am not encouraging anyone to forego seeing an MD. This product worked for my husband who did first go to to his MD. My husband has tinea versicolor on his back that tends to get worst in the summer months. This summer it got really bad. I took a picture of his back to show him and he was pretty surprised how bad it looked and how much it had spread. He went to his doctor who put him on an antifungal oral medication for 6-8 weeks and it did nothing. I googled products for tinea versicolor and found this product. My husband has been using it daily for 1 month. He lathers it up and allows for the soap to sit for 510 minutes. For the first time ever I am seeing a major difference in his back.

This is an amazing soap, but be warned, it will dry out the skin. My acne is improving. My chronic skin issues are healing.

I noticed light pigmentation (white spots) on my skin and researched this on the web. This product came up as a remedy and so I gave it a go.

Just as advertised, it 'cured' me from the fungus within 10 days; very happy with the results and he speed.

The only 'downside' may be that it does leave your skin very dry but I guess this is necessary when fighting a fungus.

Highly recommended!

I bought this soap and used this to wash my hair as it lathers great! I also used this on my face and my face looks AWESOME!! I bathe with the soap and my body feels good! I LOVE this soap so much that I ordered from another vendor two more bars. The only con I see with this product is that it does not last that long. It did not last me a week!

Ocean Sunset Anti-bacterial Gentle Foaming Hand Soap 8.75 Fl Oz

Ocean Sunset Anti-bacterial Gentle Foaming Hand Soap 8.75 Fl OzPerformance: I recommend Bath and Body Works foaming hand soap because it lasts longer than regular hand soap. Also, it doesn't dry your hands out like other soaps.

Fragrance: Smells like zesty citrus and warm towels. Definitely reminds me of an ocean sunset.

If you decide buy this I recommend buying it directly from their website. Not only is the shipping cheaper, they often have special deals as well.

Sasquatch Soap - 100% Natural & Handcrafted, in Reusable Travel Gift Tin

Sasquatch Soap - 100% Natural & Handcrafted, in Reusable Travel Gift TinI ordered three of these soaps as gifts for various [male] friends, and they all got a real kick out of them AND liked the soap itself a lot. I'll be baaaack......

After a hard day of traipsing through the forest frustrating amateur photographers and scaring backpackers, a Sasquatch can get pretty dirty and smelly. Trust me. You don't want to get near it until it has had a bath. Sasquatch soap takes care of the dirt and the smell without drying out the hair and skin. And it comes in a handy travel container! Perfect for loping along mountain crests.

Makes an excellent stocking stuffer.

This soap is very woodsy smelling and has a nice texture to smooth the skin. This may be one of my favotire scents from Seattle Sundries and it works well for both men and women which is always nice. Not to mention-the tin is adorable.

Defense Soap 4oz. Bar

Defense Soap 4oz. BarThe first time I had a skin infection and was on long-term anti-biotics I also got opportunistic fungal infections. Those were not getting taken care of by standard prescription-level ointments and cream, which was worrying as I was nowhere near close to the end of my anti-biotics. Searching for a way to help get rid of the fungus I ran across the Defense products and decided that since they were made to help stop the spread of some pretty nasty diseases of the skin in MMA, it was worth a try. Within two weeks the fungal infections were on the retreat after using the soap along with an antiseptic wash (which was for the bacterial infection and did nothing against the fungal infection). Once the fungal infection had been abated in two more weeks I went on to use Defense soap and gel with my other shower items. After I got over the first skin infection and had it recur, I used the Defense products and got no fungal infections on the second long course of anti-biotics.

Now I've switched over to the Defense soap and gel (which I use for my hair). After 3 years of use, these products have proven to be effective for what they are: a means of defense against catching and spreading fungal infections. Used alone they help in their prevention, as my second course of anti-biotics demonstrated. While normally allergic to standard fragrances, I have found no allergic reaction to those involved with the soap and gel. The doctor who treated me is an infectious disease specialist and has recommended this product to other patients also on anti-biotic use with good results.

In all a good and well made product.

I initially bought this soap for my son who is a wrestler to help prevent him from catching anything nasty while wrestling. I tried out a bar first for myself just to make sure it wasn't harmful or irritating to the skin. At the time I started using it I had a small patch of psoriasis on my hand and another spot on one of my elbows that wouldn't go away no matter what I tried, including prescription remedies. After a few days of using this, the psoriasis started going away. I ordered more bars and after a few weeks the patches were gone completely! My oldest daughter had some bad acne on her face and she used a bar of defense soap and it cleared up about 85% of the acne. One of my other daughters got a small patch of psoriasis on her cheek, and we use the defense wipes and essential oils and healing salve and it cleared that up in a matter of days! My whole family now uses defense soap and will never use anything else.

Update. This soap is triclosan free. This is what the FDA currently says about tricloasan. "Triclosan is not currently known to be hazardous to humans. But several scientific studies have come out since the last time FDA reviewed this ingredient that merit further review.

Animal studies have shown that triclosan alters hormone regulation. However, data showing effects in animals don't always predict effects in humans. Other studies in bacteria have raised the possibility that triclosan contributes to making bacteria resistant to antibiotics."

I know the soap is expensive, but it really works on jock itch. I've been suffering from jock itch for years, and so far only prescribed medication would work. I found this soap at my gym, and decided to give it a try. At first, I thought it didn't work, because I used it directly on my testicles and it really didn't do anything. Then I read somewhere that when using antifungal soap, you should never apply the soap itself on the testicles, but rather use it in a lather with a scrubbing cloth then apply. It works...This is the first time I'm not going to the doctor in getting another prescription. I just buy this soap, and it's cheaper on amazon than my gym. So thank you Amazon.

I am a 28 year old female Floridian.

I have very sensitive skin and eczema, and have had to give up on wearing deodorant due to the irritation (don't tell anyone!). I find that if I use this soap on my underarms (let it sit for a few minutes before rinsing) I have very little problem with underarm odor, all day, even in the heat of the summer. I have not found it to be drying at all when I use it on the rest of my body, though I only do so about once a week (I use Dove the other days). Not only that, but it smells delightful. It is a fantastic soap to take on trips as you are using public bathrooms and transportation and staying in hotels, etc. It was great to have when I was visiting a friend in the hospital; you just can't be too careful.

Dial antibacterial soap can wreak havoc on your skin. The antibacterial agents in Defense seem to be gentle to the skin, yet get the job done.

Oilatum cleansing bar soap for skin, unscented - 3.5 Oz

Oilatum cleansing bar soap for skin, unscented - 3.5 OzBought this for my daughter who suffers from psoriasis. Works really well for her. She has been using this for over 20 years. We buy online now since it is hard to find in the stores.

I purchased Oilatum cleansing bar soap labeled "unscented" for my father. My father noticed a fragrance while using the soap. He checked the ingredients and noticed chamomile on the label. My father is very disappointed with the "smell" because he has extreme sensitivity to odors.

Dial Antibacterial Deodorant Gold Bar Soap, 4 Oz. (Pack of 20)

Dial Antibacterial Deodorant Gold Bar Soap, 4 Oz.Who knew that Dial has so many varieties of soap now? I haven't used bar soap for ages for showering but decided to get a deodorant soap for a particularly bad case of BO. I don't particularly like spray on deodorants and decided to get something that would work at the source, i.e. kill the bacteria with a strong soap. I then found out that they don't really make carbolic soap or boracic soap anymore, or at least make it easy to find, so this was the next best thing.

What I've found is that this soap works well. It's got a mild scent and is somewhat dry compared to soap with moisturizers in it, but the important thing is that it works as advertised. So if you've got a strong BO problem give it a try. Because it's dry, I only use it on the affected areas and use moisturizing soap for washing elsewhere.

I've used this soap all my life. Economical, effective and long lasting until recently. Either the formulation or the shape of the bar has been drastically altered (probably both), but we now get about 3 days of showers out of one bar before it softens in the middle and breaks into two small, useless and soggy lumps instead of one sturdy bar that used to last 10 days. I doubt that I'm the only reviewer to notice this change, because most Dial users are long-term users, but I don't stay with a company that thinks I'm too stupid to know when their product becomes ineffective and uneconomical. What graduate MBA program teaches that an unusable product is preferable to raising the price when expenses start creeping up? Hey, Dial, when this product no longer lasts long enough to remind me of Dial Soap (or any soap, for that matter), you need to get your teams together to come up with a new name, but don't call it Dial.

Buy Dial Antibacterial Deodorant Gold Bar Soap, 4 Oz. (Pack of 20) Now

My mother bought Dial Gold soap when I was a kid, and I always loved the smell of it. It cleaned well, and kept us smelling clean all day long. It lathers nicely, and rinses off easily.

Once I was an adult on my own, I continued to buy Dial Gold, and 40 years later that's all we use in my family's shower. It has the same scent as it did when I was a kid, and works just as well.

My only complaint is that they've changed the bars from a rectangle to hollowed out on the top and bottom. I understand that prices are going up and companies hate to raise prices and alienate consumers, but this is yet another example of a product being made smaller and represented as the same as before. A bar used to last our family for 7 10 days, and now it's gone in 5-6 days. Plus, it's hard to get the old sliver of soap to stick to the new bar because it's concave. Most of the time the sliver breaks and ends up being thrown away because it won't stay stuck to the new bar. That's such a waste, and unfair to the fans of this soap who have used it for decades.

But, as long as they make Dial Gold with the same scent and cleaning power, I'll continue to buy it.

Ok, its 20 bars of soap. Not really much to say other than it cleans well, disinfects, and seems to last longer than shower gels as one is not as tempted to over use. Having tried nearly every brand of shower gel out there from Axe to Alba Botanical to Dove for men to Irish Spring to Coast, it seems we (wife) always end up back with a good ol' bar soap. We truly like Dial, nice lather, nice clean scent, and a really good clean feeling.

Best price around, got it for like $16.00 for a 20 pack, bought two to stock up.

I'm 49 years old and have been using Dial Gold Bar Soap since I entered the military in 1980. I have tried a couple of other brands (a bar here & there), but nothing compares to DIAL! Dial is truly a deodorant soap, and gets you squeaky clean. I'm glad I found that Amazon was selling Dial in bulk packs of 20 bars. I was tired of spending a lot of money at Walgreens for 6 packs. I highly recommend Dial Gold Bar Soap!

Grandpa's Brands Company Shea Butter Soap

Soap Shea Butter Lav/Vanilla 3.25 ozIn recent years my skin has become dry and prone to breakout. I find myself caressing my arms throughout the day. I don't remember my skin ever feeling this soft and smooth and I've tried many, many, many different kinds of soap. The lavender and vanilla scent is so wonderful and relaxing, and the creamy shea butter deeply mosturizes my skin.

This soap smells amazing, I just love its scent. I find that it does moisturize my skin and when used regularly skin is NOTICEABLY smoother and moist enough for comfort and appearance.

I'd switched to various Manuka Honey and Tea Tree Oil soaps (such as the awesome but pricey Manuka Honey and Propolis Soap or cheaper Tea Tree Therapy, SOAP, VEG BASED 3.5 OZ) after dumping the chemical heavy soaps I'd grown up on, and had good results (see my reviews), though the price was always an issue. After I ran out of those, I was at a local supermarket and they were having a sale on Grandpa's brand soaps in their cute, old-timey packaging. After checking the ingredients for anything weird and not finding anything I couldn't pronounce or identify, I decided to try this one, because I need a soap that moisturizes. I've been using it daily for three weeks now and am happy with the results: smells good, cleans good, and moisturizes. May try other varieties of Grandpa's in the future, but for now, this one is tops!

Goat Milk Soap Tangerine and Clove 1 bar by Alcea Rosea Farm

Goat Milk Soap Tangerine and Clove 1 bar by Alcea Rosea Farmi highly recommend this soap!! i bought several bars of this soap when i was wine tasting in paso robles; the soap comes highly recommended by all of the employees working at the wineries; they are almost sold out every time i go (and i go wine tasting a lot!). not only did i keep some bars for myself, but it is the PERFECT gift for friends and family. it is the perfect price point, only $6 per bar, and they have several different amazing scents. i use it for my hand soap at the sink and i use it in the shower. it makes the shower smell beautiful and there is nothing like waking up to a citrus-scented shower. the soap is soft on the skin and leaves your skin feeling smooth and moisturized and smelling lovely. the bars also last a really long time; sometimes my normal soap doesn't last long at all, but the alcea rosea farm soap lasts a really long time. anytime i have guests, they always ask me where i got it and ask me how they can get some. definitely give it a try!!
