I had been looking for a replacement for a different brand of sulfur soap (Grandpa's Thylox), despite the fact that it works well, simply because no local stores carry it. I found this Derma-Klear sulfur soap at the co-op a few months ago, and it's been great.
I use this soap only at night, for two reasons: its scent is *very* strong and lingers a bit; and the active ingredient concentration (5% sulfur) is higher than in most other sulfur soaps (3%), which I find dries out my skin if I use it more than once per day. I also find it to be drying on my hands (esp. knuckles) during the winter and must apply hand lotion afterwards.
I have also used this bar in the shower, and it has significantly improved the keratosis pilaris on my upper arms and started to eliminate body acne as well. The reason that sulfur soap knocks out early-forming blemishes and KP is that sulfur is a keratolytic, meaning it softens keratin. Keratin is a fibrous protein (the hard, waxy plug) that clogs pores, both in acne and KP.
This bar smells quite strongly of sulfur; so if that bothers you, you may want to opt for a different brand of sulfur soap (Grandpa's Thylox is less odiferous but still packs a nice punch). If, like me, you've tried the gamut of acne products and don't really care how it smells as long as it works, you likely won't have a problem with it.
The last feature that I appreciate is this soap's natural (and rather short) ingredient list. Besides sulfur, it contains only the following: Aloe Vera, Centella, Chamomile, 18-Beta-Glycyrrhetinic Acid, Hawthorn, Rosemary, Sage, and TetraSodium EDTA in a fragrance-free natural soap base. It's far more natural than most other sulfur soap brands. As long as you don't mind the smell, Derma-Klear's sulfur soap can be a potent weapon in your arsenal against your body's hyperkeratinization!
I bought this soap because I remembered how clear my skin was after a visit to the geothermal springs (the steam from which is rife with sulfur) at Yellowstone years ago.
My skin is rather fair and has moderately-sized pores. Before I used this soap, the most oily areas were on my forehead, nose and chin, and I generally broke out near or on my nose, in between my eyebrows, in front of my ears, in the crease of my chin and on my neck.
Here's a quick summary of what's happened to my skin since I started using this soap a month ago:
I washed my face no more than twice a day the entire time I used it. My complexion was more even and clear for the first 10 days or so, but also slightly drier (as I couldn't find the right moisturizer). The soap really did clear out my pores, but did so in excess--when my skin became more oily in sustained hot weather, my entire forehead (which used to be relatively clear, compared to other areas of my face) became a minefield of pimples. This has progressively worsened, and now larger patches on my neck and chin have broken out, as have my cheeks (which rarely broke out before).
It used to be that the severity of my breakouts would fluctuate with hormonal levels. Now my breakouts are constant, and far worse than any that I can remember. Relatively more pimples have been deep-set and painful than in the past.
I would recommend this soap if you have skin that isn't so sensitive, or acne that is caused more by bacteria than by hormones. Sulfur is a great antibacterial agent for the skin. Don't be concerned about the smell of the soap; it smells only faintly of sulfur, and the smell does not linger after the soap is rinsed off.
However, if you have very fair or sensitive skin and have tried the usual salicylic acid/benzoyl peroxide/etc, just give up and see a dermatologist.

I am an adult & I've been using Derma-Klear Akne Treatment Soap for years now. I came across it at a Wholefoods (who no longer carry it at my location) while looking for something to clear up the breakouts I would have every now & then causing huge, painful cyst like bumps which made me feel very self conscious. It is an amazing product, my skin stays clear...unless I run out of Derma-Klear, I start to break out about 2 days after I run out. It seems pricy for a "bar of soap" but I only use it on my face and it lasts around 5 months, using it daily. I got it for my neices as soon as they hit puberty and they have never used anything else. They are 21, 20 & 18 now & their skin is flawless...not even faint scarring of their skin because they've never actually "broken out" with akne. I have recommended it to anyone who has ever commented on any issues with breakouts. Of course EVERYONE needs to moisturize & use sunscreen to have and keep great looking skin, it is never too early to use a daily facial moisturizer with an SPF 15 or higher!

The best soap i've ever used for acne. My acne has cleared considerably in the last few months. Barely any breakouts. I've had maybe one or two pimples, but they dry quickly.

I bought this because I have acne and Seborrheic dermatitis, both of which have been greatly alleviated by using a sulfur mask AcneFree Sulfur Mask, Therapeutic However after a couple months of use I found that this product didn't seem to make much of an impact. Its okay as a soap, and gawd knows it reeks of sulfur, however I feel that as a soap, the sulfur has so little time on your skin, that it can do little.
Sulfur helps by softening skin so that it can be shed more easily. I think the mask allowed time for the sulfur to do its job, but if you let the soap sit on your face, it would horribly dry out your skin. My most successful acne fighting soap so far has been this inexpensive anti-bacterial soap Safeguard antibacterial deodorant white bar soap with aloe 4 oz, 4 ea I'm a believer in the benefits of the sulfur, just not in the soap.
This stuff is great, it smells indistinguishably manly and awesome like a pirate lumberjack. It's kind of like driftwood, and wood chips, and christmas trees, and whatever wood pirates made their peg legs out of.
