Pink Zote Soap 14.1 oz (1 Bar)

Pink Zote Soap 14.1 ozI've been making my own powdered laundry soap for about the last 6 months. I was using Fels Naptha, but the smell was weird and really overpowering and my whites got VERY dingy, no matter how much bleach I used.

Then I discovered Zote. It has a nice, light, citrus smell and being a softer soap, it's a whole lot easier to grate.

So I put it to the test on a load of the dingiest whites. I used 1/4 cup of my washing mix for the first load, along with 1 cup of bleach. Voile! My whites really were bright again! The wrapper touts something like, "Now with more brighteners". Well, it's TRUE!

Zote is used in Mexico. You see lots of women down by the river with their big, pink bar of Zote, washing away...Now I know why.

If you are making your own laundry mix, I would recommend using 1/4 cup for whites and really grimy or smelly loads. For all other stuff, just 2 tablespoons will make things clean and fresh.

Another thing I've noticed is there's less breakdown of my clothing. A LOT less lint! Zote doesn't suds up like commercial detergent, that's something to get used to, but it rinses away much more completely and I like that. No residue or light spots on my darks.

Highly recommended. Try it!

I bought this soap from Amazon just a few days ago for what I thought was the best price. However, Walmart began selling this soap recently, against my knowledge, and today I ran into it while shopping for other cleaning products. The Walmart price was listed at 0.97 cents per 14.1 oz Zote bar. Talk about disappointed! Please check your local big box stores and see if you can buy for better price than amazon's price. Also, they had two choices in Zote scents. They had the unscented and the pink scented take your pick. As for the cleaning power of Zote, it is quite good. So far it takes out some really tought stains, as long as I rub the Zote in fairly soon after the stain spilled.

I use Zote to pre-treat stains before laundering in the machine as usual. I just wet the fabric and rub Zote into the stain, let it sit without rinsing, then wash as usual (sometimes days later.) Its the only thing I've found that works on many food stains, baby spit-up, etc.

The ivory sweater I'm wearing today had a pasta sauce stain on it (lovely!) I sprayed it with big-name brand stain remover and tossed it in the laundry basket. The stain remained after I washed and dried the sweater as usual. Next time I rubbed Zote on the stain and voila! stain came right out with the next washing. It also removed some ink from a ball-point pen that my baby drew onto her favorite white shirt -came right out.

I bought this to make homemade liquid laundry detergent. It did NOT completely melt down and remains chunky if you try to make liquid detergent. It does work very well. I use it often in small batches to spot clean things. I used it on on our older son's infant carseat before our second son was born. My Zote mixture completely washed away all of the stains on the carseat's straps. I also used it to wash many of my son's packed away clothes and it removed old formula stains. Pretty cool.

I use this for making homemade detergent. It works really well and I only need to use a third of a bar for each batch, so it lasts forever. Has a nice smell too.
