Pears Original Glycerine Soap 125g (Pack of 12)

I was under the impression tha the soap I purchased was an English product from England but what I received was manufactured in India with synthetic ingredients.The British product is far superior with natural ingredients.I feel I over paid for this product which is readily available in our local Indian grocer at a lower price.

Slightly less than one year ago (late September 2009) I was getting low on Pears, but I couldn't find it at my local Denver, Colorado, USA, area stores, so I bought a 12-bar carton from Amazon. Now I only have 4 bars left, and so today I bought some bars at a local Dollar Tree store. I noticed the packaging changes, but I didn't realize the extent of the disaster until I got home, compared a new box with an old, and saw the strange new ingredient list. That motivated me to open a new box, which revealed the new plastic/cellophane wrapping. I opened it and was greeted by the horrible new odor! It's quite a nasty-smelling formulation, reminiscent of some kind of insecticide or industrial cleaning product. I immediately returned the bars. Unfortunately, this probably means that Amazon also no longer has the old formula, unless a savvy and honest seller specifically says that they have the original product. Such a shame for a great 220-year-old brand, which Unilever has totally ruined. Needless to say, I won't be buying the horrific "New Pears" formula.

I have used this soap for years. I started using it when my daughter was small and she used to get a rash from some soaps. This soap never caused her a problem. I have used it ever since. It has a wonderful light herbal scent, makes nice suds and is reasonably priced.

Caress Nature's Daily Silk Beauty Bar Soap - 12/4.25oz

I couldn't find the original fragrance in the stores anywhere, so decided to shop online. I saw the picture of this label looks exactly like the old stuff I used to buy, so I committed to a dozen bars. What I got was the new smelling stuff, which for me is not really pleasant, I know, I know; the description mentions White Peach and Orange Blossoms, but there are several different fragrances of Caress, so I shop the picture/label even when I'm in the store. Yes the soap keeps my skin softer, but at the price of smelling like a grandmother (just my opinion). Since this is a product review, I still think it appropriate to rate it low due to the (in my opinion) old lady smell. Would also love if the seller actually put in the correct picture

We use this product in our Sacristy to remove wine/lipstick stains from our church linens. Twice I ordered this product from Amazon; both times I was sent a different version of the product I ordered. The Pears soap I ordered was to be "the original transparent soap," which was manufactured in England. The version sent to me by both Amazon suppliers was manufactured in India for the Pears Company in England. (Note: The version sent does not include "the original transparent soap" on its packaging.) I believe the soap will do as it has done in the past for us, but I really am disappointed in the credability of these two suppliers.

Pears soap's formula has changed as of 2009. It is no longer the wonderful, natural product we all knew and loved.

Original ingredients: Sodium Palmitate, Natural Rosin, Glycerine, Water, Sodium Cocoate, Rosemary Extract, Thyme Extract, Pears Fragrance Essence.

New ingredients: Sorbitol, Aqua, Sodium Palmate/stearate, Sodium Palmkernelate, Sodium Rosinate, Propylene Glycol, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, PEG-4, Alcohol, Glycerin, Perfume, Sodium Chloride, Sodium Meta Bisulfite, Etidronic acid, Tetra Sodium EDTA, BHT, Cl 12490, Cl 47005, Benzyl Benzoate, Benzyl Salicylate, Cinnamal, Eugenol, Limonene, Linalool.

I have been using Pears soap for many years. With it's mild formula and barely a hint of a scent it worked wonders on the sensitive skin on my face. My skin always felt clean and smooth after using. It didn't feel oily or greasy. It lathered well and rinsed easily. I loved everything about it. I would buy many bars at a time since it's so hard to find in my area. I did find it for $1.00 per bar at the Dollar Tree a few years ago and that's where I've been buying it ever since.

But, unfortunately, someone decided to change the formula. I recently needed to replenish my stock and I bought four new bars. When I opened the box I noticed that the soap was now wrapped in plastic. After tearing the plastic off I encountered the most horrid perfumey odor. When I used this bar of soap on my face I noticed that the suds were difficult to rinse off, my skin didn't feel clean and I carried the perfumey odor on my face and hands for many hours afterwards. Then I noticed that my skin started to itch around my face and I started feeling nauseous due to the strong scent. I had to throw the bar away. I tried to make myself believe that this bar's strong scent was only a fluke but after opening the other four bars I realized that the company who manufactures Pears soap must have changed the formula. I looked online and found that indeed they had. I checked the box and sure enough, the formula now has all kinds of new ingredients which were not there in the past.

So now I am left with no more wonderful soap to wash my face with.

Why did the company have to change things when this wonderful soap was doing fine just the way it was for hundreds of years???

This soap smells yummy, leaves your body very clean and moisturized. I don't need to use lotion after showering with this soap. My kids and I have been using this as a face wash for years. It cleanses thoroughly and rinses completely and leaves my skin super soft and not "stripped". My skin has never looked better. I bought this soap at a place called Sqecial's Media for 2 dollars. Anyway, I have red spots all over my face, and the day after I had used this product as a cleanser, my face felt AMAZING and it really reduced a lot of the redness in my face. Currently, I am using this product and it feels great, smells great, and works great. But I will say that it isn't something that cures oily skin, dry skin, or prevents breakouts. But after you use it, it definitely makes a difference in the texture of my skin and the color of my skin but that's probably just the shea butter and the aloe vera really taking care of my problems... I also like this product because it's vegetarian!

I have always had issue with finding a soap that didn't dry my skin out and help with my achne. This soap has done both, i am of African American decent and it is hard to find soaps that are for us as Black people. Without all these harsh chemicals. I have been purchasing this soap for almost a year and I love it! I try to order enough in advance so that I am never out. I saw it at a booth in the mall recently and they wanted $4 a bar. I use a small exfoliating sponge with it and it makes my skin so soft. I originally ordered it for my daughters' dry skin last winter. She gets pretty bad exzema and this is one of the only things that has ever helped (not even the expensive prescription creams helped). Buy Basis for sensitive skin at your local grocery/pharmacy. It's got the same anti-chlorine ingredient, is cheaper and more convenient to obtain.

At first I wasn't sure if this soap would be any better than regular moisturizing soaps. But on my skin it works as advertised to rinse pool chemicals away and leave my skin feeling great even after being in the pool for an hour. I bought another bar since, I'm convinced this is a good product.

Lap swimming three times a week in the local public pool suddenly began to give me dermatitis issues. I ordered the chlorine neutralizing bar soap, not available locally, to use in conjunction with anti-chlorine shampoo. Having resolved the dermatitis, this soap appears to be protecting me, so to speak, from further recurrence. Not only that, but it has a fairly decent odor wherein the shampoo I buy locally has a somewhat chemical smell. In short, it's working, smells fine. I gave this soap a try as a way to combat chlorine, and it did not disappoint. It lathers well (even in hard water) and rinses clean, and that's most of what I look for in a soap.

When I opened the box, the fragrance seemed extremely strong and perfume-y. However, the smell has diminished considerably over just a few weeks. In fact, even when I used it in the shower for the first time the smell wasn't as strong as it had been upon opening the box. I guess that would be a minus if you like fragrance with staying power, but I'm happy to use the least-scented things I can.

The ingredient list is fairly short:

Saponified Olive, Coconut and Palm Oils; Distilled Water; Soymilk, Fragrance, Color, Chlorine Neutralizer.

It doesn't say what the chlorine neutralizer IS, however, and also doesn't identify the fragrance or color used. Fortunately I haven't gotten either sinus symptoms or dermatitis from it, so it doesn't seem to use anything too noxious.

The soap itself does not dry out my skin, but it isn't moisturizing. If you have problems with dry skin, do still use a moisturizer post-shower.

It's definitely worth a try.

I swim at my local "Y" three times a week, and have started using this soap in addition to my chlorine removal shampoo and conditioner. The bar has a subtle scent, not too much lather, and is long lasting. Though my legs still itch occasionally, I chalk that up to winter dryness more than improper chlorine removal. I'm going to continue using this (and since I can't buy it locally, I have to order it via the Internet). Good product!

I love Ivory. I have always loved Ivory. It is one of the few commercial brand soaps I can actually use. It doesn't dry out my skin. It doesn't have a nauseating smell. It is very affordable. The formula doesn't change all the time. The only soap better than Ivory for my skin is the expensive handmade cold-press soaps. I even use unopened bars when I pack away the winter clothes to keep everything smelling fresh.

This is the way soap is supposed to bewhite, unscented, soapy. I like to buy dozens of bars and make pyramids with the top bar sculpted into a swan or a horse.

I've used Ivory bath/shower soap for decades and do so because I have terrible allergies. This is the only shower/bath soap I've found that doesn't trigger an allergic response.

We can't find Ivory bar soap everywhere and when we do, it's usually about five bucks for a package of four, three ounce bar. With Prime shipping, this purchase works out to about a delivered price of fifty cents for a four ounce bar.

In my opinion, this is a five star delivered price for what I consider to be a five star product.

I grew up using Ivory soap and felt both nostalgic and frugal when this came up on a recent deals website.

The price was great but for some reason the paper wrapping around each bar of soap is extremely adherent, to the point that you're wasting time picking off wrapper remnants off each bar of soap. I wonder if this particular package sat in a shipping pallet in the baking sun somewhere? Eventually it will wash off in the shower and it's completely possible that some people might dig the built-in loofah effect, but to me it's kind of annoying, just enough to be ... annoying.
